WOW!
New England Patriots Claim TE Jake Ballard Off Waivers
In a curious move, or dare I say a Belichick-ian one, the Patriots have claimed tight end Jake Ballard off waivers from the New York Giants. The Giants had placed Ballard on waivers yesterday hoping he would clear waivers at which time they would sign him back and put him on injured reserve. After all, what team wants a tight end that in all likelihood will not be able to play this season due to a torn ACL injury? Well, the Patriots have gummied up that plan and added Ballard to a roster of four other tight ends, including two of the best in the business — Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Dan Graziano writing for espn.com said it best, “Bill Belichick’s quest to take over the world with an army of tight ends has cost the New York Giants Jake Ballard.”
I know there must be some end game Belichick has in mind where he leverages this move to his advantage. Bottom line, don’t even try to get inside the mind of Bill Belichick — you will not survive.
